Lidhja e Prizrenit

Yesterday, June 10th, was the Albanian League of Prizren Day, which was a local holiday in Prizren. The Albanian League of Prizren is an important cultural force in Prizren, but instead of trying to explain the intricacies of this attempt to form a greater Albanian country, you can read the Wikipedia article (I know that's a cop out, but I couldn't do the explanation justice). Yesterday marked the 131st anniversary of the formation of the League, and Albanian flags were out in force.

There were activities and speeches throughout the day, but it was too hot for me to want to think about spending any time outside in the blazing hot sun. Even when I was out later in the afternoon, it was pretty unbearable. However, I did take the time to check out an interesting photography exhibit down by the river that seemed to contain shots from around the greater Albanian area (this would include Albania, Kosovo, and areas of Serbia & Montenegro).

Albanian Kosovars have a strong connection with the flag of Albania. Although Kosovo does have its own flag now, many people don't feel very patriotic about it (I would compare it to how Americans feel about the individual state flags...allegiance is to the national flag, not the state flag).
