Trees....

Trees are great. These trees are along the Corral Valley Trail, outside of Coleville, CA (along 395 south of Topaz Lake).

XO from Tallac

Saturday was a beautiful day to hike Mount Tallac. There were a ton of people on the upper portion of the Mount Tallac trail going up and coming down. Plus, there were quite a few folk at the summit. Per usual, we went up the Mid Tallac trail (which I hear isn't on any of the maps, but the trail definitely exists) on which we only saw one other guy who came running from behind me and rather startled me.

Les Fleurs!

...a few flower pics from yesterday's hike off of Carson Pass. The wildflowers were going crazy. On the Winnemucca Lake stretch there were several people out with cameras & really large lenses snapping shots. And me? My camera can easily fit in the palm of my hand (long live the Digital Harinezumi 2 Triple Plus!).

Not Quite What I Was Looking For

I tried making a time lapse while I was out hiking yesterday off of Carson Pass. I thought I had the Brinno set up to record the parking lot, but, obviously, I need a bit more practise with positioning.

Burger Me! (Please)

I'm a sucker for a good turkey burger and even more of one for sweet potato fries. I can't wait until Burger Me! opens up their Reno shop.

Introducing the Brinno Time Lapse Camera!

Right before I returned to Reno, I mail ordered a Brinno time lapse camera from Photojojo. I was pretty excited that it arrived before I left on last week's backpacking trip. I need to play with it more, but I'm thrilled to have a new toy camera to futz around with. This particular sequence was shot near the (locked and empty) Marble Valley Cabin early Friday evening (August 12, 2011) as camp was set up, dinner was cooked, and the tired hikers called it a night.

Some to see a bear would pay a fee

Personally, I've seen enough bears to last me the rest of my life.

Lazy Afternoon

Skeena was too tuckered to stare at the pine duff with me. She picked a spot in the sun, sprawled out, and spent the afternoon snoozing.

Neither Horse nor Bear

While I originally thought this pile might be from a bear, we later came across some that was definitely from a bear, so, in hindsight, I don't think this came from a bear. I don't think it came from a horse, either, but I'm stumped as to what animal this came from. Maybe it is horse, but it's pretty black and horses usually leave multiple piles and this was the only one for quite a while.

XO from Bug Gulch

This vidpo was shot the second night of my trip into the Marble Mountain Wilderness. As it turned out, Bug Gulch wasn't very buggy although what I'm doing in this vidpo is fishing a mosquito out of the rice.

Sun Through the Trees

Flowers of the Marble Mountain Wilderness

Freshly back from a 6-day backpacking trip in the Marble Mountains of northern California, here's a sampling of the flowers along the trail. I took two cameras with me: my Digital Harinezumi 2 Triple Plus (of course) and a new time lapse camera I bought only days ago. I haven't checked the time lapse pics yet, but I'll upload if they are of any interest.

From Death Valley National Park

Haven't been to Death Valley? Even if you end up just driving through on a bus tour, you should go.

Second Chances at SFO

I made it! I'm stateside once more. To tell the truth, I'm feeling dizzy and lightheaded. I just keep looking forward to that moment, approximately 4 hours from now, when Skeena turns into a happy dog puddle of jello because she'll be so excited to see me. Woof!

PS-The name of this particular SFO Museum exhibit is "Second Chances." I think I need one of those, too. :)

The Unwarranted Super Stink Eye

As I was capturing the footage for this vidpo, I did wonder what the chances were of someone reporting me to security for suspicious behavior but I don't think anyone was paying attention to me. I did, however, notice people giving super stink eye to a guy with a long, black, bushy beard who was wearing a turban-like head covering (he was also sporting jeans and a North Face fleece). He was standing near the women's restroom waiting for his female companion. He might have taken a drink from the water fountain, too. Oh, and maybe he checked something on his iPhone. Passersby stared at him and not in a friendly hey-how-you-doin' sort of way (not everybody paid him attention, but it seemed like more people did than didn't). I'm not sure why his behavior warranted such derisiveness, and I wonder if this is going to be the image that gets called to my mind the next time someone asks me what America is like.

Burger Me Twice

On September 25, 2010, I made a video postcard about Burger Me in Truckee, CA. After a few hours of cross country skiing off of CA SR 89, today warranted a burger stop. However, this time Skeena had to stay in the car.

Towards Donner Pass

Driving I-80 over Donner Pass in the winter time can be an adventure.
