After a long day of travelling yesterday (15 hours), I have the pleasure of waking up today in Tallinn, Estonia. I'm taking advantage of the free computer and internet setup in my room before I make my way downstairs for breakfast and start my day. (There was even internet access on the backside of the luggage carousel so I could have hopped on and emailed while waiting for my baggage to arrive.)
I left the airport around midnight, so I didn't really see much. But so far, Tallinn looks so clean. I didn't spot a speck of trash. (I've made up my mind to organize a trash clean up day in Prizren. I just can't take it any more!) I spent the night at the Uniquestay Mikhli Hotel. It's a bit outside of the downtown area, which doesn't bother me because I do like to walk. The room is smaller than what I expected. Perhaps more importantly, the bed is pretty tiny. Twin sized, I think. What it lacks in size, though, it made up for in comfort. I can't complain about this place, though, because there's free internet and a computer in my room.
Later today I'm going to check out Stockmanns, a department/grocery store for which I have high hopes. The biggies on my list: almond butter, cheese (emmentaler and bleu), wine, and cocoa powder. This is just a reconnaisance mission to check out availability and pricing for when I return to Tallinn later in the week. Luckily, my colleague who is here with me appreciates that I enjoy grocery stores. In fact, I'd rather spend time at the grocery store than clothes shopping. Go figure. I'd be really happy, too, to take back to Kosovo just one decent bottle of wine. I've said before, and I'll say it again, Kosovo could be a good wine-producing region, but it needs help. The wines from Kosovo just aren't very good (I have been spoiled by the availability of California wines in Reno and French/Australian/New Zealand wines one can find in Japan).
It's time to begin my day.
(And I'd like to thank Jacques for posting comments and say hi to him and Paddy. Thank you for keeping up with me! It was nice to hear from you and your comments have brought me a smile.)
