I still don't have a move-in date. The real estate wasn't in the office yesterday and there are holidays through Wednesday. I've got a crash pad lined up, but I'd really, really, really like to move into my new apartment ASAP. I'd really like to get settled. Until Wednesday, I have absolutely nothing to do. I can't go into the university because no one is back from summer holiday yet and it's probably closed until Thursday anyway. I can't go around buying stuff for the apartment because it's not technically mine yet. I'm trying to get by cheaply, which means I limited in my entertainment options. So I'm exploring the city by foot. So far, so good.

Biding My Time
Hiroshima is being good to me. I'm trying to be here as cheaply as possible and I've limited myself to spending ¥ 2000 ($22) per day. Today I had the best chutoro don (slices of fatty tuna over rice) at a place aptly named Tuna Restaurant. When I sat down at the counter, the cook said something like, "Oh! We don't have English menus," and he laughed. He laughed more when I said something equivalent to, "No problem. I'll be okay." And I was (the chutoro don was really, really good, too). That meal took 1/2 of my allowance. The other half went the purchase of a tape measure (¥500) and dinner from a convenience store (pudding and noodles for ¥450). In the morning, I went to the Peace Memorial Museum (a mere ¥50). Much of my day was spent wandering around the city and looking in different shops to price household items.
