To Malisheve and Back

It was nice to get into other parts of Kosovo on Saturday. Kosovo is so small and busses run frequently (albeit not very late) and it's not prohibitively to travel around (especially when compared to Tokyo). The schedule: Leave Prizren on the 8:30 am bus to Gjakova; arrive in Gjakova just minutes before the next bus to Pristina left (it must have been around 9:30); and ask the bus driver to drop us in Malisheve. Total travel time=about 90 minutes. Total cost round trip=9 Euros ($14).

This is where I got off the bus.

The first bit of walking was up a partially constructed dirt road. This road soon turned muddy and disappeared. The road bisects two municipalities and neither can decide who's responsible for building the road. Typical Kosovo.

The road reappeared as a somewhat-used 4WD road that followed a river (littered with garbage) and took us up to the first waterfall:

And we kept walking upstream to other falls:

And I took a few photos of flowers (I was testing out the new cameras I purchased for one of my classes):

And then I climbed up to a cave, ate some snacks, and headed back down to the road. It's too bad it was so hazy on Saturday. On a clear day, I imagine the views are nice.

It was nice to get out and do a bit of hiking. There wasn't anybody else walking, which surprised me because it was a good day for it (not too hot, not too cold, not windy). And now that I've been once, I'm fairly confident I could make my way back on my own (I would have to sit near the bus driver so I could jump up and down when it was time to let me off the bus...I just don't have the Albanian skills to keep me from communicating physically).
