Grøn Bølge

To be honest, I'm not sure if this photo was taken in Copenhagen or Malmo, Sweden.

View from Mikkeller

The Mikkeller Bar in Copenhagen has excellent beers on tap (its own and others) and is a highly recommended stop for anyone traveling through that fair city.

Goodbye Europe, For Now: 3/7/11

All good trips must come to an end.

Final Meal in Copenhagen: 3/6/11

My last full day in Copenhagen was beautiful. I celebrated by having a late lunch of smoked halibut and scrambled eggs on a thick slice of buttered rye and a glass of whatever was on tap at Smørrebrød 12. The only other people in the restaurant were what looked to be an 80-ish mother and her 60-ish son. I actually saw the woman through the window on my initial walk-by and she's the reason I went in to eat. I figured if it was good enough for her, I'd like the food, too. In fact, with my Alaskan background and Norwegian heritage, I think I could subsist quite easily on Danish cuisine.

Malmö, Sweden: 3/5/11

I didn't feel like I could go to Copenhagen without also hitting up Malmö, which is a mere 30 minutes by train away. Unfortunately I didn't exchange and money into Swedish Kroner, so I have no idea what Swedish money looks like (as a side note, I love the Danish coins because they all have hearts on them). I did manage, however, to do a little shopping (I bought the cutest, funnest dress), walk through a cemetery, and wander around the city center. Some random photos from the Digital Harinezumi Triple Plus:

The main train station in Malmö has the coolest video installation which emulates the view from a moving train. My photos below don't do it justice, so if you are interested in learning more about it, please visit the website www.elsewhere.name. I absolutely loved this.

Copenhagen, Day 1: 3/4/11

The very first thing I did when I arrived in Copenhagen (which was the evening prior to making this vidpo) was to promptly track down a laundromat. Like with many other of my Danish purchases, I was shocked by the cost. To wash and dry one load of laundry: $12. In an attempt to make myself feel better (and to get more change for the dryer) I popped over to a 7-11 to buy a tall can of pear cider and a banana. The cost for that? about $8. I decided then and there to not do any further pre-purchase conversions from kroner to dollars.

Good-bye to Kosovo: 3/2/11

I can't believe that my time in Kosovo passed so quickly. It was good to see so many friends and former students. I leave Kosovo looking for pathways that will take me back because I do not believe I am finished with Kosovo yet.

I left Kosovo via the southern border on the Pristina-Skopje road at Hani i Elezit (where the Kosovar border guard made sure to give my passport and extra clear exit stamp). As the crow flies, the distance between Prizren and Skopje is 40-ish miles. However, the drive Skopje from Prizren is circuitous and takes around three hours (and that's going through Ferizaj and not through Sterpce which may cut about an hour off the drive, but the road goes through the Sharri Mountains and was snowy).

The Restaurant & Pizzeria Park-U, which is a few minutes outside of Ferizaj on the main Pristina-Skopje road, made a really good farewell macchiato. Plus, the bathrooms were very clean and well-stocked.

Next destination: A night in Skopje then of to Copenhagen!
