Bagrati Cathedral

I spent a bit of time up at Bagrati Cathedral earlier today. It's a quick jaunt from the city center of Kutaisi (across the chain bridge and up some steps). It's been a UNESCO site since 1994, but among locals there's still quite a bit of controversy over its recent renovation. Regardless, the cathedral is open and church services do happen on Sundays (services are also happening in the small, unrenovated and unroofed chapel on the cathedral site to the right and back a bit from this first pic).
