Dinner in Lunch Meadows

A few weeks ago, I cooked up some BBQ chicken in the crockpot, dehydrated it, and threw it in the fridge in a ziplock baggie. Fast forward a few weeks, I put the baggie in my food bag to have the chicken for dinner one night during this trip. To make it dinner-ready after a day spent pounding the trail was simple. In the morning, I put the dried chicken in an empty plastic peanut butter jar, put enough water in the jar to cover the chicken, and carried the whole thing in my pack all day. By the time I was ready to direct my attention to dinner, the chicken was rehydrated and simply needed reheating (although, for someone who didn't have a stove, the reheating is merely a creature comfort). Mmm-mmm. Viva both the crockpot and the dehydrator!
