Today's adventure, an eye exam.
I woke up this morning feeling like it was time for me to get my eyes checked. After a day full of work, I walked down to the American Vision Eye Center, which is located down by the German camp-ish, not too, too far from my apartment (it's at Rruga Beteja e Kabashit #3 to be exact, in the bottom of a small apartment building). I heard that the guy spoke English and that he was educated in the US, so I figured it was worth a shot.
To be honest, I don't know if he was educated in the US, but he did say that he did his last year of residency in Manhattan. And the little stamp on the back of my "Raporti Oftalmologjik/Eye Specialist Report" does say "Dr. med. Hasam. H. Arzvallxhim, M.D. oftalmolog-ophthalmologist." The equipment in his office looked to be in good shape and fairly new, and he had several big, thick, medical eye books on his desk.
I didn't make an appointment. I just walked into the office to wait for him, which is the norm for Kosovo. No one makes appointments. About 15 minutes later, someone came out of his office, I went in, and he worked his oftalmolog magic on me. The magic entailed the standard reading of increasingly small numbers off of the wall. Then he walked me over to a machine that read my SPH and CYL numbers and measured the thickness of my corneas (which are slightly thinner than normal due to my corrective surgery). Then he took me to another machine and shone a really bright light in my eyes to look at my retinas. And that was it. No photographs of my orbs. No annoying eye drops. No puffs of air. He said it all looked good. I figure that if I'm not having any noticable problems, then the exam he gave me was just fine. Plus, for 15 Euros ($20), I can't complain.
