No matter how long the journey or how brief the stay, it sure is nice to be back in Reno. Months and months ago I was accepted to present at a conference in Denver, but since this particular conference wasn't eligible for embassy funding, my plan was to cancel. Then, at a point in time close to the last moment, I decided to fly back to attend the conference and give my presentation, hit to the bank account be damned. To seal the deal, I rearranged my Kosovo schedule to spend a few days in Reno.
My first few days back in the US are always surreal. I think I've eaten pork every day I've been back: bacon, bbq pork, pork chops...Today may be my first pig-free day. But it's still early (not quite 8am). I didn't tell anybody I was coming, and I've had exactly enough time to call my dad (twice) and surprise my friend S. And then I'll be off to Denver and returning to Kosovo. A quick trip, but it's been a nice break from Kosovo.
