By 6pm last night, the power had been out for six hours; I was cold and hungry; and my German class had been cancelled because the classrooms were too cold. Not wanting to drift around my cold and dark apartment, I hopped a bus to a hotel about 5 miles out of Prizren, the Hotel OK.
This hotel is fairly new. I had been here a few months ago for dinner and, so I hear, the swimming pool is open year round. All I cared about was a warm room and a bathtub. As it turns out, the room was warmish (meaning that I couldn't see my breath) and even though there was a tub in the bathroom, I could only get tepid water from the tap. Sitting in barely warm water in a barely warm room is, well, better than sitting in a cold apartment in the dark. There were no other guests in the hotel and I was in a room on the back side of the hotel away from the road, so it was very quiet. Plus, there was no mosque nearby to wake me with the 6:20-ish call-to-prayer this morning.
The cost? 40 Euros for the room and 12 Euros for dinner. It wasn't as inexpensive as I was hoping for, but it did beat being cold and irritated in my apartment.
