I've been busy trying to get my university classes in order and trying to come up with a game plan for a module I want to do for teachers on special needs children. I feel like I barely have time to eat, much less update! (Don't be fooled: I always make time to eat.)
Okay...so I haven't been too busy to make berry & apple/quince/pear tarts. I tried doing a butter crust for the first time (no shortening available here so I can't do my usual Crisco/butter mix). Failure. The tarts were edible (the fillings were tasty), but the crusts were too rubbery and they didn't brown in the oven.
There was new snow on Mt. Pashtriku on Sunday morning. That's great news. The more snow we get this year the (hopefully) fewer water problems there will be next summer. The snow has since melted, but there's nothing quite like the first mountain snowfall.
I also tried going to the butcher to get steak. I found a pretty clean-looking place where I bought hamburger a while back that had very little grease to it. This time I bought something steak-like that turned out okay pan-cooked with lots of garlic and pepper.
Work, food, and a snow-sighting. :) Oh...and I was in the shower last night and the power cut out which meant that my water went blisteringly hot then cut out (all in the space of less than a second). Luckily, I hadn't yet soaped or shampooed up or else I would have had to run downstairs to get a few 2-liter bottles of room-temperature water. Not fun. I waited until the power kicked back on and then I tried again (with success).
